Pre-history: The Anubis Boards Era
Early in the year 2008, a thriving community called Anubis Boards had brought together many of the members that would one day populate Interwebz. Anubis Boards was a forum that had over 400 members and, at the time, was fast approaching the 200,000 post milestone, and was still growing.
Our Administrator, Jimbo, was a member of Anubis Boards. Though he liked the forum, he recognized that there were several glaring issues with it, and that inspired him to create his own board where he would build off of Anubis Boards' successes while working to fix its flaws.
Interwebz
On March 23rd, 2008, Jimbo gave life to the forum that is now known as Interwebz. Like all other new forums, it started out as a small community with a few friends that Jimbo himself had invited.
On April fools day of the same year, Jimbo's good friend and future co-admin joined Interwebz. VD was also a member at Anubis Boards, and soon earned his first promotion as Graphics Coordinator after he designed Interwebz's first official skin.
Putting their ideas together and working hard together to attract new members, Jimbo and VD completely re-designed the forum, and more members began to join.
Several months later, the problems at Anubis Boards began to escalade. Fights broke out and members were either banned or self-deleted after conflicts broke out. Some of these members found refuge and familiar faces here at Interwebz, noticeably Tiberius, who would eventually become a Global Moderator and a very important part of the community.
Eventually, the drama at Anubis Boards was too much, and the owner of the forum, Liz, couldn't handle it anymore and deleted the forum. The hundreds of members at Anubis Boards were suddenly left without a place to go, and with no way to get back in touch with their old friends from the forum. One of Anubis Board's more popular moderators, Madraykin, then started her own forum called the Desert Lullaby.
Both Madraykin and VD had a large role to play in the demise of Anubis Boards. Linked to Liz through dating her best friend, VD was on one side of the conflict, while Madraykin and some other moderators, who were being accused by Liz of abusing their powers amongst other things, were on the other side.
After the deletion of Anubis Boards, those who were good friends of VD and who were on his side, including Liz, came to Interwebz, while those who were friends of Madraykin or who had been on her side went to Desert Lullaby.
Interwebz peaked in activity at this time. Many of the members at Interwebz resented Madraykin and the Desert Lullaby, and that fueled them to come to Interwebz and discuss their feelings with honesty about Desert Lullaby, where people were willing to listen and felt the same. However, because of this, Interwebz eventually had to become a secretive place to protect the safety the members felt they had in posting about their emotions here, and registration was at one point disabled and many boards became hidden from the public.
After the rivalry between Interwebz and Desert Lullaby died down, many of the members disappeared, and activity dipped to the lowest it ever has in the early months of 2009.
The feud between Interwebz and Desert Lullaby, and more specifically, VD and Madraykin, has since been resolved, and Interwebz is now back to being what it once was: a welcoming community with a lot of promise for the future.
The Protohistory Skin and Banner
The main skin of the forum and the banner are a sort of tribute to all the drama the forum has been through. The Anubis standing in the desert at night represents both Anubis Boards and Desert Lullaby.
